Peng Donglin, a doctor of engineering, now works as a professor of Chongqing University of Technology. He was once a doctoral supervisor of State Key Laboratory of Mechanical Transmissions, Chongqing University, adoctoralsupervisor of Hefei University of Technology, a“Chongqing Liangjiang Scholar”, a leader of the first batch of academic disciplines in Chongqing, an outstanding professional and technical personnel in Chongqing and an expert enjoying the special allowance of the State Council. He has been engaged in the research of precision instruments and the research and development of time grating displacement sensor for 40 years.
In 1996, Professor Peng put forward the“time-grating sensing theory”, which was approved as the “Non-Consensus Project”. In 2004, Professor Peng accomplished the project of “TimeSpaceCoordinateTransformationMethod andTimeGratingDisplacementSensor” with his team; In 2005, he presided over the project of “TimeGratingDisplacementSensorResearch”, which won the first prize of Chongqing Technology Invention, the second prize of Science and Technology of Chinese Society of Electronics, the 10th China Patent Gold Medal in 2007, and the second prize of National TechnologyInvention in 2010. In 2021, with the support of the National Major Scientific Instrument Development Project, Professor Peng’s team broke through a set of new complete manufacturing technologies for theultra-precision worm gear machine and worm gear pair. It took 7 years to successfully develop the high precision worm gear machine and the ultra-precision worm gear pair with both sides reaching the 1 level accuracy at the same time, which completely broke the record of the highest 3 level accuracy of the worm gear pair in China for more than half a century.
Although he is now in his seventies, Professor Peng has not stopped exploring but continues to walk on a new journey. His consistent and firm belief of tackling scientific and technological challenges as well as the original mission of reaching scientific heights will always carry him forward.
